I am a photography student and have recently lost my Mother to a battle of ongoing cancer since 2016. This portrait was taken in my garden during the 2020 lockdown in March and was the final image I ever made with her. It is my “Winter Garden photo” (Rolan Barthes- Camera Lucidia), and it holds such a special place in my heart and will always be my favorite photograph. What is so important about this image is because it is taken on a 6×7 film, the negative that holds my Mother will not fade or be lost as she did, it will survive forever, and it allows me to revisit her time and time again. It is a timeless image.
