Place of birth: Jersey City, NJ

Tuesday evening, July 12th, 2016, at Lehigh Valley Hospital, God sent one of his angels to bring Velma Smith Jr. home. Velma was born on May 24th, 1932, to the late Velma Smith Sr. and Vera Smith. An ex-wife, wife, two sisters, and one daughter preceded him in death: Moira Smith, Edna Smith, Margaret Henry, Charlise Smith-Muhammad, and Diane Smith.Velma was born and raised in Jersey City, New Jersey and completed his education at a Jersey City Public School. He served in The Korean War and later married Edna Smith. They made their home in Jersey City, NJ. In this union, seven children were raised. Velma worked at a Jersey City Auto Impound until his retirement in 2008.  After his retirement, he relocated to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.He was a very hardworking man who cared deeply for his family. He enjoyed gambling in Atlantic City and watching baseball games, in which his favorite team was The New York Yankees. He leaves to cherish his loving memories, his children: Wayne Smith, Guy Shamsideen Smith, Velma Smith III (Barbara), Valerie Smith, Vanessa Smith, Leah Smith-Harris, Wafiyyah Muhammad-Scriven (Kelvin Qawi), Viola Hemmingway (Michael), Robert McNeil, Lorraine Holston, Daryn Smith (Yvonne), Stacy Smith (Patrick), Russel Highsmith (Alexies), William Smith, Frederick Smith (Erica), Michael Smith, his sisters: Barbara Shaw, Christine Brown, and Carol Bryant, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
