Eugene Rhodes, Jr., 48 died suddenly of a massive heart attack on Monday morning, February 8, 2016, at Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital in Demopolis, Alabama. Eugene was born January 19, 1968 in Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital, Demopolis, Alabama. Eugene took an interest as a football player at an early age by starting in pee wee football leagues, then going on to play junior high and high school football where he was a star player for Demopolis High School. He graduated from Demopolis High School in 1986, earning a scholarship to play football for East Central Community College in Decatur, Mississippi. Eugene graduated with an Associates Degree in Physical Education. He would later teach Physical Education at U.S. Jones Middle School. Also, during his career, Eugene also worked in carpentry, construction and trucking industries. He was employed with Suttles Truck Leasing until he became disabled. Eugene began to speak publicly and held his own spot with local radio station 106.5 until his passing.

He is survived by his daughter, sister and brother-in-law, Jeanne and Clarence Mulholland, his nephew, Hakeem Mulholland, his niece, Imani Mulholland, his Uncle, Beverly Thrasher, aunt and uncle Rosa and Nelson Thurman, aunts Bernice Hughes, Clarissa Lawson, Henrietta Rhodes, Bettie Jean Rhodes and Susie Kendall and a host of cousins.

Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, the late Reverend and Mrs. Eugene and Mary Lee Rhodes.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 13, at Birdine A.M.E. Zion Church, Forkland, Alabama.

The family will receive friends at the Larkin and Scott Morturary, Demopolis, Alabama from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. on Friday, February 12th.
