Cheryl Stewart died in her home on September 9, 2014 in Montgomery Alabama due to complications following lung cancer. She was 40. Ms. Stewart was born on December 30, 1974 in Montgomery, AL to her parents, Robert and Mary Smith. She graduated from the Alabama A&M with a degree in Elementary Education in 1994. She married William Stewart in 1998. The Stewarts moved to Huntsville where William worked as a police officer and Cheryl taught the third grade at Blossonwood Elementary. Ms. Stewart was a patient and supportive teacher with a passion for literacy and the arts. She sang for the Astoria Women’s Chorus and taught vocal and piano lessons to young students. Inspiring creativity and dedication in others was her life-long goal. Ms. Jones is survived by her daughter, and son-in-law, Clarissa and Joseph Christian, and niece and nephew Joseph Jr. and Tinisha of Chicago, IL; her son, Ray Stewart; her brother, Charles Smith. She is preceded in death by her husband, William; Ms. Stewart will be buried in a private ceremony on September 24, 2014. A memorial will take place on September 23 at 3:00 p.m. at Wicker Hall. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Ms. Stewarts’ life.
