William Gore

Bill Gore was born in Belen, New Mexico to Cleo and Earl Gore. He graduated from Belen High School and attended Eastern New Mexico University where he edited the local paper and pursued his dream of becoming a sports writer. World War II interrupted his career path, and he willingly set out to defend his country.  He served in the Army Air Corps in Italy working with airplane radar. 
After returning home to New Mexico, he worked for the railroad and then settled on becoming a buyer for Momsen, Dunnegan, and Ryan Company. In Albuquerque, he met and married the love of his life, Chela .  They lived in Albuquerque and had one son, Samuel, who died in early infancy, and one daughter, Beth.  He and Chela later lived in El Paso, and then, upon retirement, returned to Belen.   He was involved in Friends of the Belen Library, Masons, church, and other community organizations.  He also wrote historical articles for local newspapers.  He passed away on September 23, 2016, surrounded by family in New York City.
Family was the most important thing in his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Chela, his son, Samuel, three brothers, Glenn, Pug, Bob and one sister, Phyllis, and a nephew, Rick. He leaves behind his daughter Beth; two grandchildren, Carolyn (Adam), and Audrey (Eric); three great-grandchildren, Jack, Maddy, and August; nephews Rodney (Lee), Lloyd, James, and Bob (Martha), and niece, Cleo; and longtime friends, Marge and Jim Lewis, Jim Christensen and Carol Rael.

Funeral Notice Detail

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 10 at 1:00 pm in the Presbyterian Church in Belen.  He will be interred in the National Cemetery in Santa Fe on Tuesday, October 11 at 2:15 pm.  Memorial gifts may be directed to the Friends of the Belen Library, Valencia County Shelter Services, or to any Belen community charity.
