Rodney Wilson
Place of birth: Houston, Texas
Religious affiliation: Christian
Rodney Dale Wilson, 68, of Austin, TX passed away, to be present with the Lord on Monday, February 17, 2025 (President’s Day). He was born in Houston, TX, to his biological parents and adopted as a baby, by Bennie Jr. Wilson and Charlene Pearly Love-Wilson, the only parents he knew, who loved him dearly. Rodney grew up in Spring Branch, Houston, TX and graduated from Spring Branch High School, in 1975, where he played football and was known as a prankster. He earned a few detentions and “swats” back then. He spent many summers in Palestine, TX, hunting and fishing with his dad & dad’s relatives. He often hunted with his cousins and once armed with BB guns, hunted a few Blue Jays. His dad quickly taught him “you only hunt for what you eat”. Rodney said, “they tasted like chicken!” During and after high school, Rodney worked, as a painter, for his dad’s paint contracting business, B.J. Wilson Painting, in Houston and later in Kerrville, TX when his parents relocated there. He didn’t like painting very much so, he decided to move to Austin, TX, and took a job for a used appliance repair company where, he learned to fix used appliances. He decided to answer an ad for ABA Appliance as an appliance repair technician, for which, he wasn’t sure he was qualified. He was hired and learned a lot about the business. He eventually ventured out on his own and opened his business, Red’s Appliance Service. Rodney was known as “Redneck”, by many for his love for Country music, Western wear, his black Stetson hat, he often wore and his country lifestyle. He loved everything country, including the outdoors. He often watched old western movies and reruns of Gun Smoke and The Virginian. He loved to watch NASCAR, as well. Rodney was a gun enthusiast and had his license to conceal carry which he used to serve at his church on the ERT (Emergency Response Team). Rodney had a great sense of humor, loved to tell jokes, was very social, and didn’t know a stranger thus he made many friends.
