Place of birth: Wolf Point Montana
Richard (Rick) Brian Hurst passed away at home on Sept, 27th 2015. He was born April 17, 1961 in Wolf Point, Montana to Donna and Dean Hurst who both preceded him in death. Rick was the youngest of five children which include his two brothers Randy of Boise, ID; Terry of Gilbert. AZ and two sisters, Karen Waller of Kent, WA; and Jan Wallace of Butte, MT. Rick went to elementary school in in Whitehall, MT and he spent his high school years in Bozeman, MT where he graduated from Bozeman Sr. High. After graduation, he followed his parents to Arizona and attended Arizona State University graduating with a BA in History. After graduation, Rick stayed in the Phoenix area and spent most of his adult life working in some of the finest restaurants in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area as a server. He pursued other career paths over time, including nearly completing his degree in education, before deciding he did not want to teach. He always returned to the restaurant industry. This was the work he enjoyed, although it took a physical toll on his health.
In 1989, Rick married Alicia Poston of the Phoenix area. Although their nearly 20 year marriage ended, they had two children (Amanda, 19 and Brian, 18) together, whom he dearly loved. He continued to take an active role in their lives and was always very proud of sharing their achievements with others, including that both children are currently attending Arizona State University. Rick’s other loves included his dog and constant companion Telios, as well as music, philosophy, reading, and cruising in the various convertibles he drove throughout adulthood.
Rick also enjoyed training in the martial arts as a younger man and attained a black belt in Shotokan karate. He was a proud and active member of AA for over 13 years.
