Joseph Eugene “Gene” Thompson passed away February 1, 2016. He was laid to rest in Prairie View Cemetery in Aransas Pass on February 8, 2016, surrounded by family and friends.
He was born on June 4, 1938, in Brunswick, Georgia, to Jacob and Julia Thompson . “Gene” loved the water and boats, so it was no surprise to anyone when he joined the Navy in 1955. Once receiving his discharge from the Navy in 1959, he gravitated to the shrimp and fishing industry, as most of his uncles had done. There he remained until retirement.
“Gene” was preceded in death by his mother and father; sisters, Mayo Odom, Nedra Hebison; nephew, Howard G. Odom. Survivors are daughters, Elizabeth James (Patrick) of Mt. Pleasant, TX, Leslie Thompson of Mt. Pleasant, TX , Ellen Harrison (John) of Aransas Pass, TX. ; grandchildren, Bryan Crowder, Crystal Crowder, Mason Cornett, Christopher Bain, Jeremy Thompson; great grandchildren, McKenzie Crowder, Dasia Humphrey; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
There will be a family memorial on Feb 26th.
