John “Amir” Johnson was born on April 2, 1935 to John Johnson and Mattie Dubose in Charleston SC. John received his education through the SC school systems always having a passion for cooking.
In 1957 John decided to move to New York to follow his goals of becoming a cook. During this time John chose to convert to Islam and during an event meet Edna and they both served Allah at the Masjid 17.
John and Edna married in 1962 and raised five children together as John found a successful career as a cook for different downtown restaurants until he retired in 2003.
John was a devoted brother at his Masjid and would often volunteer his time to assist different events given in the community. John lived a happy and fulfilled life until he departed us on June 29, 2015. He is proceeded in death by his loving father John; and mother Mattie. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his devoted wife Edna, children Victor “Mustapha” of GA, Donna of NY, June and John of NY and Tariq of NJ. His grandchildren, Ishan, Raymond and Irene, Brandi, Imhotep, Shameka, Shakeem, Conniequa, Tariq Jr, Aiesha and Isaiah. Great grandchildren, Jayden, Nevri, Paris, Rayven and a host of family and friends.
