It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of Eleanor “Ellie” Estelle Shwartzer Levey, who died suddenly on Friday, December 29, 2017 at the young age of 80. Ellie was born on April 17, 1937 in Boston, Massachusetts to Helen and Solomon Shwartzer. She grew up in Winthrop, Massachusetts with her loving brothers Alfred (Al) and Howard (Howie) (now deceased). It was through her brother Howie that she met the love of her life Lester Levey. They were married on August 10, 1957 and had a loving marriage that welcomed their two greatest gifts, son Robert Alan Levey and daughter Nancy Rochelle Levey Bossert. Ellie and Lester were married for nearly 25 years until his sudden death in 1981. Ellie then focused on her career, serving in administrative roles in the banking industry until her retirement in the early 90’s, as she then turned her attention to caring for her parents.
Upon their deaths, Ellie moved to the Los Angeles area in 2002 to be close to her children and beloved grandchildren. She soon became enmeshed in their lives, right up until the day she passed. Those who knew Ellie were touched by her grace, fortitude, determination, compassion, wisdom, humor, character and generosity.
Ellie is survived by her brother Alfred Shwartzer, sister-in-law Naomi Hochberg Shwartzer, children Robert Levey and Nancy Levey Bossert, son-in-law Dave Bossert, daughter-in-law Carol Becker Levey, grandchildren Sydney Bossert, Marlee Bossert, Alexandra Levey and Joshua Levey, as well as countless family and friends whom she cherished with all her heart.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 7, 2018 at 2pm at the Sharon Memorial Park Chapel, 40 Dedham Street, Sharon, Massachusetts, 02067. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to a special fund in her memory to
