Colleen (Doherty) Santy always considered being a wonderful mother to be her greatest joy and her greatest accomplishment. She was devoted to her husband of 33 years, Bill Santy. He preceded her in death in 1988, and welcomed her to heaven this March.
She was a feisty card player, loved to settle in to a good game of Scrabble with her dearest friend, and was always dressed in green from head to toe on St. Pat’s. She dearly loved her Green Bay Packers and for many years enjoyed living by the “green bay pickle stand”, Lambeau Field. Mom loved Christmas! Even when money was tight there was excitement, lots of singing, a manger scene (stable made by dad), cookies, tinsel, and a special gift under the tree for each person who would wake up there that day! She was the heart of our childhood home.
Colleen was born to Clarence and Albertha (Dennison) Doherty in January, 1933. She was the ninth of ten children and grew up in Green Bay, Wisconsin. After high school, she joined the Civil Service and worked in Washington, DC at the Pentagon as the secretary for an Army general. Several years later she returned to Green Bay, where she met our dad and happily settled into the role of wife and mother. The couple had five children and a life of love together. After almost 30 years apart, she is finally together with the man she always called, “my Bill”. She is survived by many grandchildren and also six great-grandchildren.
We, her children, feel incredibly blessed to have had such a kind, gentle soul to give us absolute, unconditional love from the moment we were born; and be a role model and mentor to us in life. Lay down your burdens and rest in peace, dear heart.
