Remembering and celebrating the life of Cassandra “Cassy” Manning. Cassy was born on December 18, 1964 in Houston Texas. She passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 14, 2016. As a child, Cassy was easy going, caring, and cheerful. She inherited an infectious giggle from her mother, Bertha Joyce Pegoda. Cassy lived near her maternal grandparents and was often visiting them, baking, cooking, and crocheting with her Grandma Kies and combing Grandpa Kies’ hair as he took his afternoon rest from working in the fields. Cassy attended St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church and School, and later attended Trinity Lutheran Church and School. She graduated from Nimitz High School in 1983 (?) While in high school, Cassy played on the basketball team. Cassy was always close to her family and took care of her grandfather as he transitioned into Hospice care and until his death. If he seemed agitated, she would comb his hair as she did as a child. She said it seemed to comfort him. It was during that time that Cassy realized how much she liked taking care of people and decided she would go to college to become a nurse. She attended Blinn College in Brenham, and upon graduation, received her LVN certification. Her family was so proud of her! Her work as a nurse has been focused on caring for the elderly. She was kind, patient, and cared for each patient as if they were her own grandparents. Cassy loved to cook, bake, and garden. She especially loved her flower garden and the butterflies that visited.
