Wendy Carol Bennett McCarter, 35, was fatally shot by her husband, Scott McCarter, 40, on May 25, 2006. Scott McCarter also killed the couple's 12-year-old son Scotty Jr., and 6-year-old daughter, Melanie Rae before turning the gun on himself. At the time of the murders, McCarter was on trial on charges of molesting his teenaged stepdaughter (Wendy's daughter) and the girl's best friend. The bodies of the family were found the morning McCarter was supposed to take the stand in his own defense. Wendy's family found out about the murders as they waited in the courtroom for McCarter's trial to resume. Wendy, an unflinchingly innocent soul, was a graduate of Millville (New Jersey) High School, and worked as a bank teller. Her life was her children – Scotty, Melanie and Amanda.
