Rev. Michael Anthony Thompson, Sr. departed this life in exchange for eternal life with his Lord and Savior on August 6, 2017. Michael was born on September 6, 1959 in New Orleans, LA to Betty Barnum and the late Willie Russell. He was preceded in death by his wife Dianne Thompson and his granddaughter Ranea Patterson. He leaves to cherish his memory: Two sons, Michael A. Thompson, Jr.(Ironton, OH) and Michael Patterson( Tara) and one daughter, Johndra Patterson. Eight Grandchildren. Seven Sisters, (Twin) Maudie Thompson, Shantell Barnum Mosley (Cedric) of Dallas, TX, Marsha Block ( Los Angeles, CA), Willie Mae Miller (Donald), Leola Russell (Natchez, MS), LaVonne Smoot (Natchez, MS) and Diane Russell (Las Vegas, NV). One brother Gerald Thompson and one sister-in-law Evangela Brewer. Godmother, Delores Norman, Honorary daughter, Stella Reynolds, Aunts, Uncles , and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and  many, many friends.

Rev. Thompson accepted Christ at the tender age of 9 years old and was baptized at Antioch Baptist Church in New Orleans, he received his education in the New Orleans and Lutcher, LA school system where he graduated in 1977. He joined the U.S. Army in 1977 and served our country until 1984.  Following his discharge from the Army, Michael worked for USDA/NASA in Michoud , LA for over 15 years.
In March of 1987 he married Dianne Patterson. This year, 2017, would have been their 30 year anniversary, now they are celebrating it together in heaven!

In 1997, Rev. Thompson accepted his calling to preach God’s word at Village De’LEst Baptist Church in New Orleans, LA. He was licensed to preach in 1998 and became ordained in 2003. He attended Union Baptist Theological Seminary where he obtained his Bachelor of Theology degree.

When Hurricane Katrina hit the city of New Orleans in 2005, Michael traveled to Ohio to evangelize to those that were displaced there. He soon thereafter relocated his family there, as they were welcomed with open arms by the Mount Olive Baptist Church in Ironton, OH. He eventually became the Pastor of Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Middleport, OH where he, and the late first lady Dianne, called home until God called them to His side. His family at Mt. Moriah wants to share how much they will indeed miss their pastor, his beautiful spirit, caring heart and fire-filled preaching, but they take much comfort in John 16:22 “And ye now therefore have sorrow; but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.”

Michael certainly had a wonderful spirit, forever a jokester, always wanting to see a smile and never a frown, he was a great dancer too (or so he thought!) Michael was a dedicated father and he loved his family. He was an avid bowler and a mega New Orleans Saints fan!
He was a man that always believed that THIS life was not about him, but ALL ABOUT GOD! He will be deeply missed by his many friends and family and all who knew him.
