H.G. “Toby” Kauffman

Place of birth: Garden City, Kansas

Religious affiliation: Christian

Toby, was the last of 10 siblings born of George Kauffman and Juanita Chaffee. He lost his mother very early and his father at the age of 11.  He then went to live with his oldest brother Howard Kauffman and his wife Sally for the remainder of his childhood and graduated Sou’ Wester High School in Dodge City, Kansas in 1959..  He entered the United States Navy in 1959 as a gunners mate on The USS Hanson, served proudly and was honorably discharged in 1962.  He went to work as an Electronics Manufactures Representative for many years.  While working for Cramer Electronics in 1974, Toby dropped in at Evans & McDowell and met Gayle face to face for the first time.   He knew immediately that she was “The One”.  Toby not only married Gayle but adopted all 3 boys Duke, Bill and JB and raised them as his own.  He remained in the Sales industry until he retired from The Omni Group in 2009.  He enjoyed many hobbies along the way. He played soccer for approximately 15 years. Toby volunteered at Iron Gate, serving others for another 13 years  as well as volunteered at St Patrick’s  Love Thy Neighbor Breakfast Program for the last 4 years.   Later in Life he picked up bowling and got quite good at it.  For 42 years Toby set the bar on how to be a loving husband, father, grandfather and even great grandfather.  His loyalty and  devotion to his friends was immeasurable.  He’s had such a positive impact  on so many lives throughout the years and will be deeply missed by all.

We ask that in lieu of flowers that donations be made in his memory to St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church, Clarehouse, or Iron Gate.
