Gertrude Ann Crowley (Rotter)

Place of birth: Petoskey, MI

Gert was born to Emery and Verna (Ostrander) Rotter on September 20, 1952 in Petoskey, MI. She attended school in Cheboygan, MI and later earned a BS in computer science from Ferris State University in 1974. She married Paul Crowley on August 26, 1978. They had one daughter, Eleanor (Carl Bogda). Paul and Gert spent their married life in the Chicago area, Westerville, OH, Chandler, AZ, Le Claire, IA, and lastly in Long Grove, IA. Gert worked in computer programming and project management at many companies over the course of her career. She retired from Allstate Insurance company. Gert is remembered for being a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her three grandchildren, Maren, Grant, and Emmeline were her world. They will have fond memories of her being such an instrumental part of their lives. She was a truly unselfish person who wanted to provide for everyone else. Gert showed incredible tenacity after surviving a head on car collision in 1988. She had severe injuries that were expected to leave her unable to walk, but she was determined to prove her doctors wrong! She was able to recover physically. She never allowed her past injuries to hold her back! 

Funeral Notice Detail

Gert passed away at St. Mary's Hospital (Mayo Clinic) in Rochester, MN just weeks after learning she had cancer. She is survived by her husband Paul, daughter Eleanor, grandchildren Maren, Grant, and Emmeline, her sister Barbara VanEnglenburg, brother Jim Rotter (Sue), and brother Frank Rotter (Mary), and her niece and nephews. The family will be hosting a visitation at 1pm at Lintz Funeral Home in Indian River, MI. Funeral services will start at 2pm with a dinner to follow.
