Stanley Michael (Mike) Drinkall died unexpectedly on November 5, 2017. Mike was born in Nampa Idaho to parents Jack and Sally Drinkall. The family moved to California during his high school years, where he graduated from San Jacinto High School in 1965. After attending college he joined the Navy during the Viet Nam era. He served for four years in a submarine, the USS Sea Owl. He then returned with his wife Linda and 6 children to Yucca Valley, California, where he was a jeweler and watchmaker for 25 years, as well as a Reserve Deputy for the Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office. After retiring there in 1994, he returned to Idaho and joined the Ada County Sheriff’s Office. During his career in Law Enforcement he received 2 awards for Officer Of the Year. He was highly regarded as a man of integrity, a faithful friend you could always count on. All who knew him had the utmost respect for him, and had great admiration for his compassion, generosity, sense of humor and impeccable work ethic.
Mike’s wife of 31 years, Linda Joyce Drinkall, passed away in 2001. He married Rosemary Belisle in 2007. She had been a nurse at the Ada County Jail but it was after she left there that he finally asked her out. Rosemary loves to tell their love story in detail, but Mike’s version which he told with a twinkle in his eye was “We met in jail”. They spent 10 ½ wonderful years together and loved each other deeply. After retiring in 2013 they began extensive traveling in their RV, visiting friends and family, photographing and sharing their adventures with their loved ones. Mike’s favorite hobby was photography and he seldom left home without his camera. This wonderful man is now resting in the arms of Jesus, but he has left a hole in the hearts of those who loved him.
Mike is survived by his wife Rosemary and her entire family who loved and accepted him as their own. He was Grandpa Mike to Rosemary’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren who adored him. He is also survived by his children, Gary, Harold, Jimmy (Sheri) and Dawn Burkholder, sisters Kay Aber (Rich) and Patty Young (Bob), 12 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Linda, children Michael and Cindy, brother Phil Burns and sister Jean Joslin. A private interment service was held on Tuesday, November 14 at the Idaho State Veteran’s Cemetery. A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Mar 3, 2018 at the Summit Church, Boise, Idaho. Time of service to be announced.
