Lorraine P. Kurtz, 95, of Groton, passed away May 4, 2015 at the Groton Nursing Facility.
Mrs. Kurtz was born February 20, 1920 in Grand Island, NE, a daughter of Hilton and Magdelina (Suponchick) Petersen, and had been a resident of the Cortland-Groton area for most of her adult life. After retirement, Lorraine relocated to Colorado, then to Florida for several years, before returning to Groton. Lorraine was a 35 year employee of Smith-Corona, and was a past member of the Groton American Legion Auxiliary. She formerly taught Sunday School at the Groton Community Church, and had volunteered for ten years at the hospital in Grand Junction, CO. She was also very active in the Grand Junction Senior Center.
She is survived by her three sons, Kurt F. of Florida, Andrew L. and Earl G. Kurtz, both of Groton, a daughter, Karleen Comfort of FLA, two sisters, Maida Jean Mowry of Cortland, and Bonnie Coon of Baldwinsville, two sisters-in-law, Elaine Petersen of NE, and Bertha Petersen of Groton, two grandchildren, Pete Kurtz of CO, and Tracy Santos of FL, numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Carl Andrew Kurtz in 1979, by her brothers, Hilmer, Hilton Lee, Heber and Hillard Petersen, and by her sisters, Marjorie Ellis, Jerda Ellis, and Helen Petersen.
A private graveside service will be held in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden. There are no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Groton Fire Department Ambulance Fund.
