+JMJ+Dr. Joseph Paul Karkut, passed away on Monday, December 14, 2020. He was laid to rest in the Chapel of Hope Mausoleum at Naples Memorial Gardens in Naples, Florida, alongside his wife, Bonnie Hohenstein Karkut. The Rite of Committal was said by Father Len Gioeli, also, Navy Military Funeral Honors were conducted and witnessed only by immediate family, as per Joseph’s wishes. Joseph, the son of Paul Karkut and Lottie Zaworski Karkut, was born in Wilkes-Barre, PA. He was the only son and the youngest of five children. The family moved to Detroit, MI, where Joseph was educated in the Detroit public school system and was a member of the R.O.T.C. at Chadsey High School. He continued his higher education and was a graduate of the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. Shortly after graduation, Joseph married Bonnie Hohenstein, in Muskegon, MI, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. His wife was a graduate of Michigan State University in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences. Joseph was a lieutenant in The United States Navy. He was attached to the Marine Corps where he served as a dentist in both Okinawa and California. Upon his honorable discharge, Joseph and Bonnie resided in Saginaw, MI where they raised four children. Dr. Karkut practiced dentistry in Saginaw for 25 years, then relocated to Naples with his family, where he continued to practice dentistry for 11 years. Throughout his dental profession he was a member of The American Dental Association, The Michigan Dental Association, Florida Dental Association, West Coast Dental Association, and the Collier County Dental Society. After retirement, he continued to engage in boating, fishing, and spending time with family and good friends. He also received his Florida real estate license and was pleased to be an on-site realtor. Later, he joined Gulf Shore Cooling Inc., as an Appointment Generator, working for GSC in the Bonita and Naples Home Depots for the past twelve years; a job he truly loved, surrounded by caring and supportive co-workers.Dr. Karkut was predeceased by his dear wife of 59 years of marriage. He was a loving and devoted father to four married children, and proud grandfather of nine grandchildren. He will always be remembered by his unselfish love that he showed to his children, his strong work ethic, and the funny stories and jokes he would tell to his children, grandchildren, and friends. He truly was a great role model that we all looked up to and will continue to admire. We love you deeply and will miss you tremendously. May you rest in peace!
