Janice Perkins
Janice A. Perkins
Place of birth: Euclid, Ohio
Jaye was born in Euclid, Ohio in 1924 and grew up in Cleveland. She met William C. Perkins Sr. in September 1946 and they were married 2 weeks later. After some traveling for work, they settled down to raise their family in Vermilion, Ohio until 1973. At that time they moved to Phoenix, Arizona where she spent the next 40 plus years.
Jaye loved reading, decorating, traveling and spending time with family. She was very creative and also wrote poetry. As a young teen she loved the magic of the cinema and would walk to the theater and watch 3 or 4 movies on a single Saturday. She once saw Frank Sinatra sing live before a movie screening and couldn’t quite understand what all the fuss was about. She didn’t think he was very good looking and wasn’t even sure if she liked his singing.
Throughout her life she held a wide variety of jobs, including being the supervisor at an auto lube shop during WWII, a coat check girl in a night club, a server and cashier at Ferguson’s Cafeteria in Phoenix, an Office Assistant at Arizona Health Plan/Cigna but raising, encouraging and loving her family was her first love for much of her life.
She served in volunteer leadership roles in the Lake Elementary School PTA as well as the Vermilion-on-the-Lake Lot Owners association. Jaye was an amazing event planner and organizer! Planning school carnivals, neighborhood holiday parties, Summer corn roasts and so much more. She was also a Cub Scout Den Mother for her sons.
Jaye was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Vermilion, Ohio for several years as well.
