Born in Chicago, Illinois and moved to Downey, California with her parents Hugh and Jeanne MacTavish, sisters Deanna and Jackie in her early childhood. Barbara graduated from Downey High School in 1959. She was a member of the Downey High School Drill Team. She worked as a secretary at North American Aviation and Boeing for many years. She also worked for the Press Telegram in Long Beach, California. She married and had five children, Doreen, Rhonda, Shauneen, Hugh, and Robert. She lived in several different locations throughout her life. Those places she lived include California, Kentucky, Oklahoma, and Arizona.

Funeral Notice Detail

Barbara passed away at her home in Lakewood. She had been battling Stage 4 cancer, but was improving with chemo and immunotherapy. She went into respiratory arrest and did not survive. Her time of death was 8:17 pm, that is her birthday date. She is survived by her five children: Doreen Heistuman; Rhonda Rembis and husband Scott and their son Devon; Shauneen Macias and her husband Norberto; Hugh Langan and his wife Lisa,and his two sons Hugh Jr. ( wife Brianna and their son Jacob), and Trystan; Robert Harris and his wife Katia. Barbara also had a beloved pet cat named Storm who has been lovingly adopted by Hugh, Lisa, Hunter (Lisa's son) and Trystan. Barbara's wishes are to be cremated and have her ashes spread in the desert. The family is traveling to Lake Havasu in the Spring to spread her ashes in a private ceremony. There will also be a memorial service in February for family and friends.
