Norma Bernstein, 83, of Long Branch, NJ, passed away on November 23rd, 2015 peacefully in her sleep. Norma was born to her late parents, Marvin Brown and Ann (Cohn) Baron in Scranton, PA on July 13th, 1932. She graduated from Penn State and continued on to receive a Masters from Columbia. She met her husband, Charles Bernstein in New York and moved to Monmouth County, NJ, where she taught Home Economics and Sewing at Howell Township Schools for seventh and eighth grades.
Living in Little Silver and then Tinton Falls, she raised three kids: Adam (b.1964), Greg (b.1966), and Georgia (b.1968). Among her many talents were piano playing, macramé, gardening, arts and crafts, and being in charge of her school’s annual fashion shows. She loved to try new gluten free recipes and frequently entertained many friends and relatives with dinner parties at their historic Tinton Falls house. After retirement she and Charles moved to Long Branch, NJ, where she loved being a grandmother to Greg’s kids: Meghan, Zoe, Owen, and Georgia’s: Nicolas, Antonio, Gabriella, and Joey.
For fun she traveled the world, including Europe, South America, and her favorite destination: Mexico. A longtime member of Monmouth Reform Temple, her funeral service was held there on November 27th.
Those we love don’t go away; they walk beside us everyday.
