Michaela Catherine (Anderson) Kramer

Place of birth: Cleveland, Ohio

Michaela (Mickey) Catherine Kramer, 68 of Sierra Vista, Arizona, passed away on June 17, 2015. Mickey was born the daughter of Donald Anderson and Claire (Brogan) Anderson on December 27, 1946, in Cleveland, Ohio. Having grown up in the foster system, she attended several schools in Ohio, Arizona and California and spoke fondly of all of her foster parents.

Upon graduation she enlisted in the United States Navy, served as a Yeoman and was stationed at the United States Naval Base in Newport Rhode Island. While serving there she met and married Milton Joel Kramer on June 17, 1967. She received an honorable discharge on August 9, 1967 upon learning they were expecting the first of four children. They divorced following 32 years of marriage.

Mickey received her nursing degree from Hawkeye Institute of Technology in 1972. While attending Hawkeye she enjoyed and participated in the intramural sports program and played on the women’s basketball team. As a nurse, she was employed at Schoitz Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa, Lake View Care Center in Lake View, Iowa and while employed with Traveling Nurses of America served Native American populations in Oklahoma and Arizona. In addition she worked for Kramer Construction, Basha’s Deli and T & M Boiler Company.

Mickey enjoyed reading, writing, crocheting, gardening and genealogy and had a particular interest in Ireland and her Irish heritage. Much to the dismay of her eldest daughter and son, she was a dedicated Iowa Hawkeye fan and rarely missed a televised game. She was also an avid Arizona Sun Devils fan. She is survived by her children, Shelene Codner (John), Dumont, Iowa, Troy Kramer (Kristie), Marshalltown, Iowa, Susan Casarez (Roland), Phoenix, Arizona and Tamara Nuckolls (Darren), Early, Iowa, ten grandchildren, three great grandchildren (was expecting her fourth). At the time of her passing she was survived by one sister, Mary (Jackie) Mahany, Henderson, Nevada, who has since passed. She was preceded in death by her sister, Terry Welker and presumably her parents.

A family memorial service will be held graveside at Pleasant View Cemetery in Aplington, Iowa at 1:00 p.m. on August 30, 2015. Memorial flags were flown in her honor over the Capitol in Washington, D.C. on August 1, 2015.
