Louis Fleury 11/19/2012

Place of birth: None

Louis A. Fleury passed away in his Arcata home, surrounded by his loved ones as they grieved his passing but celebrated his life. Lou was known for the twinkle in his eye, his infectious smile and his sometimes gruff but always endearing ways. He brought light into every room he entered, and was known for his ability to fix anything, cheer anyone, and constantly surprise his family with stories of his life – even after 85 years, his family and friends heard new tales that highlighted a life lived well. Born in Washington, he lived throughout the Grays Harbor area of Washington state and later in San Francisco, and then settled in Humboldt County in his twenties. There he married his first wife and had three children – Debra (Brovelli), René (Cosby) and Gregg Fleury. Later he married Magherita Pialorsi Lonn and gained two stepsons, Eric and Curtis Lonn.

During his working years, Lou was a logging truck driver, a diesel mechanic and more; he had the ability to fix anything, and created solutions to mechanical problems that others had given up on. He had a lifelong love of cars, from his first car to his last. In his retirement, he became a master gardener, explored living in other cities in Northern California, and eventually returned to Humboldt to live in Arcata.

Predeceased by his wife Margherita in 2003, Lou is survived by his life partner, Joyce Ackerman, with whom he shared his life for the last six years. He also leaves behind his daughters and sons and their spouses, eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Though he is no longer with us, we all hear his voice as we move through our days – cheering us on, correcting us, teasing us and reminding us that we are loved. We will miss him immensely. YGDD.

We would like to thank Hospice of Humboldt for their exceptional care and support. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Hospice of Humboldt to help them continue to provide services for other families. A celebration of life will be held in May of 2013 in or near Arcata; details to be announced later.
